Christopher
Judd heads the team and deals in a wide range of commercial
disputes including construction disputes, professional
indemnity disputes for claimants and on behalf of Defendants.
In
recent years Chris has acted in a directors breach of
fiduciary duty claim in which the company was awarded
in the region of £2.75 million. He is a keen proponent
of alternative dispute resolution having acted for clients
in a number of mediations.
Paul
Saxon and Anthony Mallen acted on behalf of
over 100 Claimants in the successful Hepatitis Multi-party
Action against the National Blood Authority (NBA). The
Hepatitis case is the leading authority on the Consumer
Protection Act (CPA) 1987, with its emphasis on the interpretation
of the European Directive implemented in the UK by the
CPA.
The
decision imposes true no-fault liability for personal
injuries caused by consumer goods and is of importance
to all manufacturers and suppliers of consumer goods.
Anthony
Mallen previously led the HIV MPA and has been involved
with two other MPA's all of which have achieved a successful
outcome for the Claimants. The firm's record in dealing
with such cases demonstrates its capacity to handle substantial
and complex litigation.
Ursula Collie is based at the
firms Darlington office and in common with other members
of the team deals with all aspects of commercial disputes,
in particular insolvency and landlord and tenant matters.
In recent years she has acted for a client recovering
about £750,000 for financial loss (plus remediation
costs) in respect of the purchase of land which proved
to be contaminated. Anthony Deas has a formidable reputation
as one of the leading litigators in the North East of
England. He has acted for substantial companies in the
North East, and has over the years been involved in a
number of reported cases that have been the benchmark
for the law in the specific matters in question.
