Employment & Business Disputes

Christopher Judd heads the team and deals in a wide range of commercial disputes including construction disputes, professional indemnity disputes for claimants and on behalf of Defendants.
In recent years Chris has acted in a directors breach of fiduciary duty claim in which the company was awarded in the region of £2.75 million. He is a keen proponent of alternative dispute resolution having acted for clients in a number of mediations.

Paul Saxon and Anthony Mallen acted on behalf of over 100 Claimants in the successful Hepatitis Multi-party Action against the National Blood Authority (NBA). The Hepatitis case is the leading authority on the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 1987, with its emphasis on the interpretation of the European Directive implemented in the UK by the CPA.

The decision imposes true no-fault liability for personal injuries caused by consumer goods and is of importance to all manufacturers and suppliers of consumer goods.

Anthony Mallen previously led the HIV MPA and has been involved with two other MPA's all of which have achieved a successful outcome for the Claimants. The firm's record in dealing with such cases demonstrates its capacity to handle substantial and complex litigation.

Ursula Collie
is based at the firms Darlington office and in common with other members of the team deals with all aspects of commercial disputes, in particular insolvency and landlord and tenant matters. In recent years she has acted for a client recovering about £750,000 for financial loss (plus remediation costs) in respect of the purchase of land which proved to be contaminated. Anthony Deas has a formidable reputation as one of the leading litigators in the North East of England.
